Melissa Ryan joins Media Matters as a visiting fellow
Washington, DC — Today, Media Matters for America announced that Melissa Ryan, a thought leader at the intersection of politics, media, technology, and the far-right, joined the organization as a visiting fellow.

Media Matters is increasingly researching and writing about the intersection of fake news/disinformation and technology. Melissa’s expertise as a digital strategist with a keen understanding of the dangers of fake news and the far-right will be an invaluable asset to our work and we couldn’t be happier to have her join the team. In her role as visiting fellow, Melissa will serve as an in-office expert on the crossroads of disinformation and technology working alongside the researchers and writers in this space in order to expand on and share her own expertise, identify opportunities for content or studies as well as share that expertise with stakeholders and the public.
Melissa Ryan is the author of the Ctrl Alt Right Delete weekly newsletter. She’s spent a decade leading digital campaigns for nonprofits and political races, including EMILY’s List, Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign, the New Organizing Institute, and Sen. Over the last year, Media Matters has expanded its efforts to grapple broadly with misinformation, where it comes from and how it spreads. The organization has added experts to our staff to build in-house tools and software to help track and identify trends and takeaways in fake news, conspiracy theories, and misinformation.
